Description

The fossil of a juvenile ichthyosaur was found at Lyme Regis, Dorset. Ichthyosaurs were marine predators from the Triassic and Jurassic periods, over 250 million years ago.

Visual description: A nearly complete fossilised ichthyosaur skeleton embedded on pieces of rock. It has an elongated, streamlined body. The spine is composed of numerous small vertebrae from the head to the tip of the tail. The skull has a large round eye socket and a long, pointed snout. Small, sharp teeth are visible in the snout.
