Cave hyena teeth
Pleistocene
Fossil
Description
Millions of years ago, hyenas roamed in South Devon. This fragment of cave hyena jaw was found in an area of Kents Cavern near Torquay. Other bones in the cave showed tooth marks made by hyenas gnawing on them. It is possible that the hyenas used the cave as a den.
Visual description: A fragment of hyena jawbone with four molars in situ.
