Description
The elephant beetle is one of the heaviest insects in the world. A fully grown larva of this beetle can weigh over 150 grams. They are a type of rhinoceros beetle, named for the tusk-like head projection.
Visual description: An elephant beetle specimen positioned as if in a walking stance. It is a large insect with a bulky, oval-shaped body. Its exoskeleton is smooth and black, with a hard, glossy surface. The beetle has a long, curved horn on its head, extending forward like a hook. Two additional, shorter horns protrude from its head.
