This instrument, decorated profusely inside and out, was used in Andalusian nawbāt ensembles. The term tār is not exclusive to this instrument, as other terms, such as daff and riqq, are used in other Middle Eastern localities.

Description: Circular wood frame decorated in bright colors; skin, green stained and fastened with upholstery tacks; two pairs of embossed metal cymbals distributed in five windows spaced equidistantly around the frame's wall; a thumb rest on the inside.
