描述

Wari tunics were constructed from two woven panels seamed together, leaving an opening at the center for the wearer’s head. As with those of their Inca successors, Wari tunics are standardized in size, format, color, and design, suggesting that they were produced in state-sponsored workshops. On this work, a wavelike motif known as a stepped fret is arranged in registers of wide stripes with white outlines. The precise significance of this pattern is not known, but the dazzling interplay of harmonious colors—including light pink, magenta, turquoise, white, and brown—against a tan background creates a bold visual statement.
