Gallery Overview: Facsimilies

#3284

描述

Artists, who were part of the Museum’s Graphic Expeditions to Egypt in the 1920s and 1930s, made the precise color copies (facsimiles) of scenes seen in this gallery that were then visible on the walls of New Kingdom tombs largely dating from about 1400 B.C. to 1100 B.C. They copied only what they saw, making the paintings to scale with exact coloring. These facsimiles are significant archival records of these tombs and Egyptologists continue to use them as important sources of information about this ancient culture.
