Audio guide: Sound Journey

45 minutes | 9 stops

Description

Sound Journey is a collection of sound pieces created in collaboration with sound artist Gemma Nash and local people with disabilities.

The sound pieces were made by recording the sounds and conversations from a series of workshops, each focussing on a different object from RAMM's collections. The sound pieces bring together the ideas and creative responses of people with disabilities. They will, hopefully, help you look at the objects in a playfully different way.

Each audio piece is linked to an object in the museum. Throughout the project, the objects were used as a way of talking about what was important to people.

The finished sounds journeys are more of a meditation than instruction.

“We took part in workshops at the museum exploring different objects that linked to the theme of movement. Sound Artist Gemma Nash took recordings and sounds from these workshops to make an audio piece. We hope that this will help visitors to the museum to look at objects in a new and playful way.” Ben, attendee.

“You can create your own journey round the museum, or go to each of the objects in order. You can listen to the sound piece in front of the object that inspired it, make your own journey from one object to another, or listen to them in another space if you want to. We hope that you enjoy listening.“ Katie, attendee.

Thank you to our funders Clare Milne Trust, Elmgrant Trust and other donors for supporting this project.
