Sladen's Study

Location. Sladen's Study

Description

Sladen’s Study showcases the collection of Percy Sladen (1849–1900). Percy dedicated his life to the study of echinoderms – a group of sea creatures including starfish, sea urchins and their relatives. He was a world expert.

Percy amassed a huge collection of books and over 5,000 specimens from all over the world, including microscope slides and fossils. Following his death, Percy’s wife, Constance, donated his collection to RAMM. It is thought to be the largest and most comprehensive echinoderm collection in the UK outside the Natural History Museum, London.

You can learn more about Percy Sladen, including his involvement with the voyage of HMS Challenger, on RAMM's collections site.
