Honiton lace is the most well-known Devon lace.
This lace sprig is from a collection of British and Continental lace put together by Charlotte Treadwin. The sprig is part of a group for a parasol cover entered into the International Exhibition in London in 1862. It was later sold to HRH Alexandra, Princess of Wales.
Charlotte Treadwin’s collection was donated to the museum in the late 1860s for lacemakers and designers to study.
You can read more about this particular sprig or about the story of Devon lace on RAMM’s collections site.
